General Rules & Regulations
RULES OF EMPHASIS
- Lakeside is a smoke free facility.
- Children 8 years of age and younger must be accompanied by an adult or guardian and supervised by said person while on club grounds.
- Parents and guardians: Lifeguards are on duty to enforce rules and regulations and to respond to emergencies; but you are ultimately responsible for the safety of your children and guests.
- Avoid contaminates in our pool water: do not swim when you have diarrhea; use approved swim diapers and change diapers in a bathroom, not at poolside. Remove perfumes, cologne, make-up, and body lotions prior to swimming, as they can cause problems with pool chemicals. (exception: sunscreen)
- Lakeside will not page for illegally parked vehicles. The police will be called and the vehicle towed.
- Chairs may be restricted by the edge of the kiddy pool on crowded days.
- Do not load or unload from vehicles on Trevilian Way from the opposite side of the swim club, causing pedestrian traffic in the middle of the street. Use crosswalks.
- No parking within 4 feet (or in front) of an entrance or driveway.
- No parking at a designated bus stop or in a loading zone.
- Toys or the use of a toy, which may cause harm to other members, are prohibited.
- No glass, aluminum cans, alcoholic beverages weapons or illegal drugs permitted. Lakeside reserves the right to inspect bags, coolers, picnic baskets, etc. upon check in at the front entrance.
- Parents are responsible for their children at all times. Children 8 years and under must be supervised.
- No one over the age of 5 years may enter the opposite gender changing room.
- Swimmers not toilet-trained must wear an approved swim diaper. Regular diapers, disposable or cloth are not permitted in the pool. This is necessary to keep our water safe and clean.
- Eating and drinking on piers, steps and adjacent to any water edge is prohibited.
- Appropriate swim wear must be worn. Thongs, shorts and cut-offs are prohibited.
- Pushing, shoving, spitting, running, horseplay, use of profanity, vandalism, power walking, or any act deemed unsafe by the staff is prohibited.
- Lakeside is a family facility — please refrain from excessive personal displays of affection.
- Radios must be kept at a low volume.
- Picking of flowers, shrubs and trees or playing in the gardens is prohibited.
- Rock climbing is prohibited.
- Please do not litter. Use receptacles provided.
- Cell phone use is prohibited in changing rooms.
ITEMS PROHIBITED AT LAKESIDE
- Glass containers, aluminum cans, weapons, alcoholic beverages, and illegal drugs.
- Bicycles, skateboards, roller blades, roller-skates.
- Diving sticks, swim discs, water cannons, large inner tubes or tubes with metal stems, paddles, oars, hard flying discs, tennis balls, large spongy footballs, basketballs, golf balls, hard plastic balls, or any hard type ball.
- Broken or torn sponges and/or styrofoam objects.

Lakeside Swim Club prohibits the use of all inflatables over 92” in length. Also prohibited are large water cubes, spheres, castles, pyramids, wheels, see-saws, inflatable kayaks and paddle boards, or any other over-sized inflatable that could inhibit safety and water space as deemed by staff. Lakeside reserves the right to clear the water of inflatables as necessary.
POOL & LAKE RULES
- Beach balls and small sponge balls are the only balls allowed, other than those provided by the club.
- Non-swimmers are prohibited in 8′ areas unless they are wearing an approved personal floatation device.
- Diving is allowed in water deeper than 5′.
- Diving or jumping from above the blue step leading into the lake is not allowed.
- NO gathering of rocks from the bottom of the Lake.
- Toys may not be thrown as projectiles.
- NO jumping from the sidewalk around the Lake into the water.
- NO swimming under piers and bulkheads.
- NO horseplay on the rail dividing the deep and shallow water.
- NO sitting or playing on buoy/life lines.
Kiddy Pool
- For use by children 8 years of age or younger.
- Children MUST BE SUPERVISED BY AN ADULT.
- Children may play with inflatable toys, but may not use them to sit on. Pointed objects, throwing of toys in the air, water pistols that shoot farther then 24 inches, or any activity deemed unsafe by the lifeguard is prohibited.
- A walking path surrounding the kiddy pool must be maintained. Refrain from blocking the sidewalks with chairs and personal items.
Instructional Pool
- Instructional aquatic classes are held in this pool. The pool will be closed to recreational swimming when classes are in session.
- The diving boards are for competitive training and classes only.
- Large floats and tubes are prohibited in this pool.
- Recreational swimming is not allowed in the 13 foot area.
- Deck area surrounding the pool shall be kept clear.
- A water chairlift for physically challenged members is available for water access.
Water Volleyball
- Located in the 4-foot area of the Lake by Kiddy Pool.
- Limit of 6 players per team.
- No standing or pulling on the support standard, pole, or net.
- Rough play is not permitted.
- The water volleyball shall be obtained and returned to the lifeguard by the Judges stand.
Water Basketball
- Located in the 4-foot area of the Lake by Kiddy Pool and in the Instructional Pool.
- Limit of 6 players per team.
- No dunking the ball, or hanging on the net or rim.
- No rough play.
- The water basketball shall be obtained and returned to the lifeguard by the steps in front of the Eckard Building.
Jr. Water Basketball
- Located in the 4-foot area next to the steps in front of the Eckard Building.
- This court is for children 12 years of age or younger; parents may accompany their children.
- Limit of 6 players per team.
- No dunking the ball, or hanging on the net or rim.
- No rough play.
- The water basketball shall be obtained and returned to the lifeguard by the steps in front of the Eckard Building.
Water Walking
- A water walking lane for fitness is located in the 4-foot area of the Lake by the Bull Pen.
- An additional water walking lane is available in the Instructional Pool when classes are not in session.
Bull Pen
- Located in the 4-foot area of the Lake.
- Swimmers 10 and over, and children accompanied by an adult are permitted.
- Reasonable “rough” play is permitted.
- No diving or splash diving off the platform area.
- Sitting on shoulders is prohibited.
- Only ONE person is allowed to throw another in the air. People must land feet first.
- Bull Pen will be closed for organized classes and/or if staff feels the area is being misused.
Float and Piers
- Front Pier — location of diving boards
- Back Pier — located by sun deck in the back of the Lake
- Old DB Pier — located across from the main entrance (named for location of old diving board)
Raft Area
- Raft area is for passive use only. Patrons must be on a raft. Noodles are prohibited.
- One person per raft unless it is designated for 2 adults
- No swimming allowed.
- No horseplay allowed.
- Entrance is from Front Pier or raft area entrance adjacent to Old DB Pier.
25-Yard Lanes
- A chairlift is located adjacent to the lanes.
- Lap swimming only.
- No hanging or sitting on the lane lines.
- Two lanes will remain open for member lap swim during swim meets.
50-Meter Lanes
- Lap swimming only.
- No hanging or sitting on the lane lines.
- The two outside lanes, wall lane by lane 8 and lane 0 by lane 1 are designated for member lap swim during team training.
- All 50-meter lanes are closed during swim meets.
Lake Diving Boards
- One person on the board at a time. Next in line must wait at the bottom of ladder until the person in front of them exits the board and swims to the ladder.
- One bounce on the board. All jumps and dives must be from the front end of the board.
- Swimmers must exit from the ladder or under the buoy line.
- A parent, responsible sibling, or adult may enter the water to assist a beginning swimmer from the low board ONLY. They must receive clearance from the lifeguard prior to entering the water.
- Goggles, masks, water wings and swim rings are prohibited. Coast Guard approved PFD’s and float belts are permitted on the low board only when child is assisted by an adult.
- No splash dives towards lifeguard.
Emergency Procedures
In the event of an emergency, the Lakeside staff is trained and prepared to handle emergencies in an efficient and safe manner. Members and guests are asked to refrain from crowding in an emergency area.
When a water emergency exists, the lifeguard will stand, sound one long blast of their whistle, point to the area of the emergency, and swim to the area to effect the rescue. All other guards shall stand in their guard chairs and continue water surveillance. The “down” lifeguards and support staff will move quickly to the rescue area. Please clear sidewalks when an emergency whistle is blown.
If you see an emergency happen, contact the closest lifeguard, in order for the Emergency Action Plan to be activated.
